Living close to a Pub or Club can have its draw backs. One unlucky customer had their front tap snapped off in the middle of the night by vandals.
Over the years I have seen this happen a few times. The best solution is to move the front tap away from the nature strip, and put it on the front of the house. We can also install vandal proof taps that require a key to operate them.
My local girl guides, like many hard working community groups have a constant struggle fund raising for the bare necessities. Which made me think that they probably hadn’t had those old potentially dangerous heaters service in a very long time.
So I decided to donate my time and service both of those heaters for free. Carbon Monoxide is very dangerous! It has no smell, no taste and you cannot see it, your red blood cells absorb it faster than oxygen.

Even a new heater in a new home can emit Carbon Monoxide. An exhaust fan without enough room ventilation can draw dangerous flue products back into the room. A bird nesting in your flue can cause fumes not to draw away from the appliance.
No heater new or old should be left untested for more than 2 years. Luckily for these girl guides, these heaters had seen very little use and were in great shape for their age. After a good clean and service they passed the Carbon Monoxide test.
When moving into a factory or shop it’s important that it’s setup to suit your needs. Grant from Autosmart in Ringwood regularly uses water for many things.
He needed a tap out the front for washing cars, a tap for filling buckets, a tap out the back for general duties and a high flow hose for filling up a large storage container.
The closest water tap was 50 meters away which was just not practical as it was costing him time, and effort to join 3 hoses together all the time and was also a worksafe hazard. Hoses laying on the ground can trip people over and when dragging hoses around water is bound to get spilt on the ground which needs to be cleaned up so nobody slips over.
I ran a large water line with a bigger than normal outlet to suit his high flow requirements, and installed 4 garden taps with 2 hose reels. Already this new setup has save him lots of time so he can focus on what’s important.
In the past I have done plenty of factory maintance, installed extra toilets , air lines to compressors, emergency showers, wash basins, hot water taps for wash down bays, ect. This week I was asked to attend an urgent job. The customer was very stressed and in a panic as she had a very strong smell of gas comming from the kitchen area. If a gas leak is minor or large it needs to be treated as a serious matter.
Every home only should know where to shut off their gas incase of an emergency. The shut off valve are located on the left side of gas meter and in most cases has a red handle. Once you have shut off the gas supply, open all your windows and doors to dissipate the gas inside your home. now you can relax and call a plumber.

I recently attended a call for a leaking hot water cylinder in Croydon. Its very normal for gas heaters and hotwater units be hidden up the sideway of the home. Out of sight out of mind. Fair enough too! However it is important to keep trees and grass away from them. When Summer time heat dries out the grass and leaves they become a big fire danger, I’ve lost count of how many times I’ve had too pull burnt grass out of the bottom of an appliance. Another issue is the more plant life there is around a gas apliance, the larger the spider and insect population is. Spiders and small insects love to clime into gas injectors and other import parts wich can causes the apliance to run poorly, and then stop working. So this Spring when your cleaning up your yard, don’t forget to give the area around your ducted heater and gas hotwater service a tidy up.
Earlier this week in Heathmont, a customer wanted me to install a new toilet, and basin vanity in a walk in walldrobe to convert it into a ensuite – powder room. A clever idea and a great way to convert an unused wardrobe! It was a nice quick job, and the customer was very happy with the outcome. I also have a kitchen and laundry renovation going on at the moment so stay tuned for updates!
The laundry is a simple room to renovate. Typically I begin by removing the old hot and cold pipe work. I then set up the new pipe work to be incorporated under the new laundry trough so it’s out of site, and then install a flip mixer instead of taps. All the washing machine connection points are also under the trough. Everything is hidden away neat and tidy.
I have a Painter, Electrician, Tiler and Plaster that I regularly work with and trust to do a good job. So if your time poor I can organise the job from start to finish. Or if your handy on the tools and want to have a go at it yourself I’m happy to work with you and just do the plumbing work. If you wish to have a custom trough cabinet with a large benchtop with cupboards I also know an excellent cabinet maker.
Today I installed a new gas hot water service today in Bayswater. The customer was feed up with poor water pressure in the shower due to a gravity feed hot water unit. The new Aquamax will defiantly provide great water pressure and ample amounts of hot water.
With an upcoming bathroom renovation they can now install flip mixers, and a shower rail without any problems adjusting the temperature.
